EARTH SCHOOL
A long time meditator and yogini, I first found my Zen in a Tai Chi class in 1987 with Tai Chi Master Jean Kwok while attending NYU’s Tisch School of The Arts. One day something clicked and I felt the "Chi" moving through me, around me. It was about this time that I became aware of energy flowing from my hands. This ignited the awareness of myself as a conduit for energy and access to a Greater Intelligence in new and exciting ways. Shortly after this incident, I spent time working and learning at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck NY, absorbing teachings from such luminaries as Thich Nhat Hanh, Roshi Joan Halifax and Spirited Social Activist and Master Nigerian percussionist Babatunde Olatunje. That period of my life paved the way for the grace and depth of knowledge transmitted from Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (aka Amma), with whom I traveled and spent time with, at her center in San Ramon, CA. Subsequently, my journey led me to Native Elders and Indigenous Shamans as well as the wild ride of traveling alongside Hare Krisna devotees and time at Interfaith center, New Vrindaban in West Virginia. These are just a few of the adventures on the unfoldment of my Spiritual path. For a Jewish girl from Long Island, brought up in a close family and tight knit community any expectations of who I was "suppose" to be or how I was "suppose" to live my life blurred.
The journey of self discovery, personal growth and spiritual evolution was well underway......
I found my way to center, as a Waldorf Mom, Montessori Teacher and Educational consultant, training adult learners at schools across the country to become certified teachers, conducting workshops for parents, presenting at conferences and providing informational resources to other Montessori schools as they started programs for their youngest students.
Life went on, with lots of exploration, many adventures, twists and turns, experiencing the joys, duality and challenges of life as a Spiritual Being and life as a Human Being, and the shifting identities that accompany us throughout the different phases of life. There were happenings that led me to understanding BOTH the Bliss of Spiritually Transformative experiences, AND the havoc stressful events can have on ones health and well being. Resiliency bootcamp for me brought depression, divorce, infidelity, single parenting, theft, house fire, flood, empty nesting, surgery and medical leave from work and moving all at one time. Imposter syndrome, a stripping away of how I identified myself and existential contemplation arose. I found out first hand what Narcissistic abuse, a sense of rejection, abandonment, mind looping and loss of sense of self feels like as well as the impact of being highly empathic and having poor boundaries.
Through digging deep, a multitude of tools, helpful techniques, practical guidance, a solid support system and multiple trainings, I also learned the way through it. Of the power of gratitude, mindset, presence, small wins and the grit, resiliency, grace, and resolve of the Human Spirit. Of how to reclaim ourselves and turn seeming obstacles, uncertainty and change into our greatest Superpowers. Of how to root into the identity of our true Self, that which is consistent and available for us to lean into always, especially in trying times. For we grow through what we go through! And this was all PRIOR to getting hit by a truck while crossing the street. An incident in which many broken bones and traumatic brain injury were sustained!
I am committed to using my experiences, education, certifications, schooling and knowledge solidified and received in my Near Death Experience, as well as a PHD in adjusting to New Normals and life with a traumatic brain injury to guide others in cultivating Resiliency, Grit, Grace, Authenticity and connection to the Universal Source of Love and Compassion that resides within us all.
